私は彼と、月光のなかで眠る犬を見守りながら少し夜更かしをしてみました。ただ、スヤスヤ眠る犬をみていると、ついこちらもウトウトしてしまって、気付けば朝でした…。
Xで盛り上がる皆さんの写真を通して、無事皆既月食を眺めることができました。ありがとうございます🫶🌸

Did you catch the total lunar eclipse the other night?
I stayed up a little late with my partner, watching over our peacefully sleeping dog bathed in moonlight.
But as I gazed at our pup snoozing so soundly, I couldn’t help but drift off myself… and before I knew it, morning had arrived.
Thanks to all the beautiful photos shared on X, I was able to witness the eclipse after all. Thank you, truly 🫶🌸
Now, with a warm cup of coffee in hand, let’s take a deep breath.

話は変わりますが、先日の台風15号の被害は甚大でしたね…。
みなさんの地域は大丈夫でしたか？突風や竜巻、停電や傷病人の方もいたと聞いて驚きました。被害にあわれた方々に、心からのお見舞いを申し上げます。どうか、ゆっくり心と体を休ませられますように。
そして、例年9-10月あたりは台風や大雨がやってくるかと思いますので、気を付けていきましょうね。みなさんや、みなさんの大切な方々が無事であることを祈ります。
Changing the subject for a moment—Typhoon No.15 brought devastating damage recently.
I wonder how things are in your area. I was shocked to hear about the strong winds, tornadoes, power outages, and injuries. To those who were affected, I offer my heartfelt sympathy. I truly hope you’re able to rest your body and heart, slowly and gently.
As we enter the months of September and October, when typhoons and heavy rains often arrive, let’s stay mindful and take care. I’m praying for the safety of you and your loved ones.

それでは、ずっと書きたかったテーマ“雨”について、今日は雑記を書きたいと思います。
And now, I’d like to write a little note on a theme I’ve long wanted to explore—rain.
みなさん、雨が好きですか？じとじとしてあまり好まない方も多いかもしれませんね。
私は、カンカン照りの晴天も好きですが、じっとりと降雨な一日も好きです。じろっとした曇天や、緊張感漂う雷空、静かに降りそそぐ雪から危険な雹まで、どんな天候も味わいがいがありますね。
Do you enjoy rainy days? I imagine many people might not—especially when it’s damp and sticky.
Personally, I love bright, sunny skies, but I also find comfort in a slow, rainy day. From heavy gray clouds that loom overhead, to the tense skies before a thunderstorm, from the quiet fall of snow to the danger of hail—every kind of weather holds its own flavor.
日本の雨について調べてみると、面白いことがわかりました。
少し古くはなりますが、2012年のデータによると、なんと世界3位の年間降雨日数だそうです。全国平均で、年間100-150日程度降り、これは世界的に見ても多いそう。特に、季節ごとの雨の種類の豊富さが日本の雨の特徴とのこと。
降雨量は世界48位と熱帯地域に比べ多くありませんが、年間平均降水量は世界平均の約2倍。水に恵まれた国に住めるのは、幸運でありがたいことですね。
Recently, I looked into rainfall in Japan and found something quite interesting.
According to data from 2012 (a little dated, but still insightful), Japan ranked third in the world for the number of rainy days per year. On average, the country experiences 100 to 150 days of rainfall annually, which is considered high by global standards. What’s especially unique is the variety of seasonal rain types—from spring drizzle to summer downpours, autumn mist to winter sleet.
In terms of total rainfall, Japan ranks 48th globally, so it’s not as high as tropical regions. However, the average annual precipitation is nearly double the global average. Living in a country so rich in water is truly a blessing—and something to be grateful for.

季節ごとの豊富な種類の雨は、調べてみると、様々な言葉で表されていました。

慈雨（じう：恵みをもたらす優しい雨）
梅雨（つゆ：初夏に続く長雨の季節）
五月雨（さみだれ：6月頃に降る長雨）
時雨（しぐれ：晩秋から初冬にかけて降ったり止んだりする冷たい雨）
春雨（はるさめ：春にしとしと降る優しい雨）
夕立（ゆうだち：夏の午後、急に降る激しい雨）
霧雨（きりさめ：細かくて視界をぼやかすような静かな雨）
小雨（こさめ：弱くて静かな雨）

Samidare (五月雨) – long rains that fall around June
Shigure (時雨) – cold, intermittent rain in late autumn to early winter
Harusame (春雨) – soft spring rain that falls quietly
Yuudachi (夕立) – sudden, intense showers on summer afternoons
Kirisame (霧雨) – fine misty rain that blurs the view
Kosame (小雨) – light, quiet rain
Tooriame (通り雨) – brief showers that pass quickly
Nagaame (長雨) – rain that lasts for several days
Namidaame (涙雨) – “tear rain,” often linked to sorrow or parting
Akisame (秋雨) – gentle autumn rain that falls softly
Reiu (冷雨) – cold rain that chills the skin in late autumn
Hisame (氷雨) – freezing rain that feels like winter’s breath
Murasame (村雨) – sudden bursts of rain that stop quickly
Tenkiame (天気雨) – rain that falls while the sun is shining, often called “fox’s wedding”
Konukaame (小糠雨) – very fine, soft rain, like powdered rice bran
などなど。読めば、ありありと情景が思い浮かぶようで素敵です。
先人たちの残した豊かな表現の数々に、なんだか心が潤うような心持ち。
忙殺される日々のなかですが、日常に眠る趣を少し思い出して、今この瞬間を大切にしていきたいですね。
Each word paints a vivid scene, as if the weather itself were whispering a poem.
And reading them, I feel my heart gently watered—like a garden tended by the language of those who came before us.
Even in the whirlwind of busy days, I want to remember the quiet charm hidden in everyday life, and cherish this very moment.
